A Constable Inspired Sip & Paint Night

Tuesday 16th June 2026
7pm until 9.00pm

Big skies. Golden fields. A tiny Suffolk pink cottage.

Join us at The Anchor for a special Sip & Paint night celebrating 250 years since the birth of John Constable, one of the most famous painters in the world - and a Suffolk local.

You’ll be guided step-by-step by artist Becca Bourne, who will walk you through the painting from the very first brushstroke to the finishing touches.

Inspired by his beautiful countryside scenes, we’ll be creating a contemporary take on Constable Country, using expressive brushstrokes, textured fields and a charming Suffolk pink cottage sitting quietly in the landscape.

No art experience needed - just come along, pick up a brush and enjoy a creative night out.

Constable 250

2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of John Constable, one of the world’s most famous painters, born here in East Bergholt.

Constable grew up surrounded by the fields, rivers and mills of the Stour Valley, which inspired many of his most loved paintings. He remained deeply attached to East Bergholt and Dedham Vale all his life, calling it “the care of my heart.”

Today he is celebrated as one of England’s greatest landscape artists, best known for masterpieces such as The Hay Wain and Dedham Vale.

The village will host events throughout 2026 to mark the 250th anniversary, alongside the Constable 250 celebrations, featuring three landmark exhibitions.

From a Constable-themed quiz to live concerts, tap the “Village Events” button below to discover what’s happening in East Bergholt to celebrate this special anniversary.

We’ve created our own Constable walking map, letting you follow in the footsteps of John Constable right from the front door of our sister pub, The Red Lion.
